What is Purity?

Purity.

What a scary word. So many people see this word and immediately resort to thoughts of judgment and shame. But what if God’s thoughts are about honor, chivalry, respect, and true love?

I recently read the book Priceless, which is based on the movie coming out in theaters on October 13, 2016. The movie is also based on the message that the band For King and Country speak to young women about their worth and value. The whole thing was inspired by a song they wrote a few years ago, also titled “Priceless.”

I can honestly say that I have never been so inspired by a novel before. I’ll avoid spoilers, but this story is about the horrible sex trafficking industry and the horrors these women face. The cool thing is, that it’s based on true stories. This book rose up in me a desire for justice for these women, but most importantly, I understood that they desperately need to hear the message that they have a Father in heaven who wants them to be free, and not just physically.

…they desperately need to hear the message that they have a Father in heaven who wants them to be free…

I love the message that this brother duo speaks to women, but it is alarming to see the need that girls have for this message. As I pondered about purity, and what that means, I realized that there is a generation rising up, who has never known a world without social media, risqué magazines, and a raunchy culture. Not only that, the message that women are nothing more than objects for sexual pleasure is portrayed in books and movies such as Fifty Shades of Grey, the pornography industry, and in TV networks like MTV.

Girls are falling for the lie that in order to be worth anything to anybody, they must show more skin, and act foolish, aloof, and needy. The enemy has infiltrated our society with these lies, and its time to speak out.

In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 it says,

18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

So glorify God in your body.

God bought us into freedom. When we were once enslaved by our own sin, which produces death, Jesus paid the price for us to be pure. Every young woman needs to understand that their bodies are meant to honor God. The most beautiful and precious thing a girl has is her purity, and we shouldn’t give away so easily. Every girl needs to understand the worth of her body, and her heart.

If you have never been told this before, I’m telling you now. Don’t give away so easily, what Jesus paid with His own life for.

It’s time for men to stand up in chivalry, and fight for the honor of our young girls. If they won’t respect themselves, teach them how a true man treats a woman. We need fathers who will teach their daughters the right way they should be treated. We need guys who will speak words of life to the women in their lives. Men who will work hard, and love stronger.

And girls, it’s time to show this world the worth of a woman. We have the capability to do what men can’t, we can carry life in our very wombs. That is so special! It’s time for us to command the respect we are owed. This means refusing to allow relationships in our lives that cause heartbreak or pressure us into doing what we should never. We need women who refuse to give into sexual immorality no matter what shallow promises may have been made. We need young girls to rise up with confidence understanding that they matter to God. No more allowing TV, books, movie stars, actresses, singers, or anyone to dictate that we should dress provocatively to command attention. We already have the attention of the most important person in the world; God. Are you with me?

It’s time to walk with our heads up, hearts kind, and hands outstretched to each other.

So purity, it’s a very real thing. It’s allowing God to clean you of all lies that sexuality is about momentary pleasure. The bible says that sex is a man and woman becoming one flesh, that is why it should be done within the covenant of marriage (Mark 10:6-9). It’s a serious thing.

I encourage you to pray to God, and ask Him to reveal to you what true purity looks like. That it’s not external, but rather an inward transformation. Go on a journey with God, and you will fall in love with Him. That is the first step to true purity.

Fall in love with Him. That is the first step to true purity.

I’m so excited to watch this movie this weekend. Get a group together and watch a movie that will inspire you to fight for this message of purity and honor.

God bless!
